Canyons Village has continuously evolved since its early days as a family farm. In the 56 years since Park City West ski area opened, the resort has gone from a local ski hill to a world-class destination offering the only true ski village experience in Park City.

While the slopes of Canyons Village won’t host any 2034 Winter Olympics events, it’s perfectly positioned between Park City Mountain Resort and the Utah Olympic Park, so plenty of visitors will get to experience Canyons Village. And rest assured, there will be many new developments in Canyons Village over the next nine years. The village has only just reached a 40 percent build-out threshold, leaving plenty of room for growth.

The first phase of a public art plan kicked off in 2024, with several art installations throughout the village, including a new sculpture at the roundabout leading to Upper Canyons Village. You might also notice fresh landscaping along Canyons Resort Drive, additional fire pits and seating and a new ski beach.

The Canyons Village Management Association continues to look for innovative programming and events. We’ve seen more live music, fireworks, drone shows and festivals added to the village event calendar each season.

Down at Frostwood Villas, work continues on a new lodging property. The Ascent Park City, a Tapestry Collection by Hilton, will feature luxury residences and five-star amenities. With pre-sales underway, the development is slated to open in 2025. Other developments, such as White Pine Canyon Village and The Ridge at Canyons Village, are adding more housing options for residents who want to be close to the slopes.

The most exciting development happening in Canyons Village this season is the construction of the Sunrise Gondola. The new gondola will offer easy access to Red Pine Lodge from hotels like Hyatt Centric, Pendry, and Lift by replacing the existing Sunrise Chairlift. Construction for the 6,500-foot, 10-person gondola is already underway, with plans to open for the 2025/2026 ski season. In the meantime, the Sunrise Chairlift will continue to operate.

Not only will the new gondola reduce lift lines at the Red Pine Gondola and Orange Bubble Express, but it will also alleviate some of the wind holds skiers and snowboarders currently experience on the Red Pine Gondola. The Sunrise Gondola location is in a more protected canyon, which will help significantly on windy days.

The gondola will also provide easier access to the dining options surrounding Pendry Plaza, which will help to disperse the daily lunch crowd.

With so many options for lodging, dining, shopping and employee housing, is Canyons Village set to become the new heart of Park City?
