Summer and fall in the Park City area offers an endless array of outdoor activities to enjoy — from mountain biking and hiking to paddleboarding, picnicking, horseback riding and scuba diving.

Below are some tasty options for fueling your outings.

FRESHIES LOBSTER CO.

Before jumping on the Union Pacific Rail Trail via foot, horse or bike, head over to Freshies Lobster Co. and pack your saddlebag with their delectable lobster rolls, spicy lobster sliders, lobster lettuce cups, or their “Low Tide Salad,” which is topped with a quarter pound of succulent, sweet lobster. Fresh lobster in Utah, you ask? Keep in mind that Freshies has won the title of “World’s Best Lobster Roll” at the Down East Lobster Roll Competition in Portland, Maine, the heart of lobster country.

CHOP SHOP

Before embarking on an adventure at the Swaner Preserve & EcoCenter, pop into John Courtney’s Kimball Junction Chop Shop and load up on charcuterie and cheese or grab one of their sensational sandwiches to-go. The spicy “Firebird” chicken sandwich is a crowd favorite, and the best French dip-style sandwich you may ever encounter is The Butler Dip, which is made with dry-aged beef, caramelized onions, Swiss cheese and house au jus on rustic country sourdough from Hawk & Sparrow bakery in Midway.

DEER VALLEY CAFÉ

If you’re planning to paddleboard the ponds at Deer Valley or Jordanelle Reservoir, make sure you drop into Deer Valley Café to stock up on grab-and-go items for your outing. The cafe and restaurant is located next to the Deer Valley ponds and offers an exquisite array of prepared foods to take-out or eat-in, including Deer Valley Resort’s famous turkey chili, a chicken salad sandwich, the creamy chicken corn salad, avocado toast, and even beer, wine, cider and seltzer to-go.

HIDDEN PEAK PROVISIONS

Speaking of watersports, a visit to the crater at Homestead Resort in Midway for scuba diving, snorkeling, paddleboarding or swimming won’t be complete without some delicious food. That means a detour to Hidden Peak Provisions is a must. The market and deli offers scrumptious sandwiches that range from a turkey club and a stacked Italian ciabatta sandwich to a cauliflower bánh mì or a Cuban porchetta.

THE MARKET

Before you jump on a mountain bike and rampage through Park City’s countless mountain bike trails, a trip to The Market in the Snow Creek shopping center is in order. It’s there that you’ll find the notorious “stick bread” from Red Bicycle Breadworks, along with house-made sandwiches on their bodacious breads. In addition, Luna’s Kitchen offers healthy grab-and-go items that include a chimichurri steak wrap and a caprese chicken sandwich, along with flatbreads, frittatas, grain bowls and hearty salads.

PRETTY BIRD HOT CHICKEN

Planning a relaxing summer picnic? Style it out with perfectly spiced chicken from Viet Pham’s Pretty Bird Hot Chicken and some provisions from Salt Box in Prospector. The perfect picnic would pair hot chicken with Salt Box’s pulled pork nachos, beet tabouleh, chicken pesto pasta and some homemade pita chips with hummus.

HILL’S KITCHEN — OR UNION PATISSERIE

If you’re planning an early morning outing — perhaps a hike while the temps are cool — stock your backpack with take-out fare from Hill’s Kitchen or Union Patisserie. The pain au chocolat at Union Patisserie tastes like a perfect piece of Paris and Hill’s Kitchen offers an impressive selection of croissant, quiche, Danish and muffins.
