If you’ve driven between Heber and Park City lately, you know there’s been a flurry of activity around the Mayflower Exit (exit 8, Highway 40). As Deer Valley’s East Village continues to take shape, a host of summer updates are unfolding — along with a glimpse of what future seasons have in store.

“The Deer Valley East Village is truly a four-season resort location,” says Kristin Kenney Williams, the military operations director for the Military Installation Development Authority (MIDA).

Salute to Service

The creation of the East Village was made possible through a partnership between MIDA and the developer, Extell. A key component of the development is its commitment to the Salute to Service program. As part of this initiative, 100 of the 381 hotel rooms at the Grand Hyatt Deer Valley are reserved at deeply discounted rates for Active Duty, Reserve or National Guard members; Retired Military; Disabled Veterans and actively serving Department of Defense civilians. In addition, Salute to Service guests enjoy access to a private, concierge-staffed lounge within the hotel.

Kristin says the program’s next focus is to work with local outfitters on summer programming.

Grand Hyatt Deer Valley

The Grand Hyatt Deer Valley hotel and restaurants opened in the East Village in November 2024. The summer season will include plenty of events along with dining at Remington Hall and the hotel speakeasy, Hidden Ace.

Kurt Krieg, the executive vice president of resort development at Extell, is excited about the addition of the Grand Hyatt’s conference facility, which is the largest in the area at 30,000 square feet. The event space includes a 3,500-square-foot terrace with views of the Jordanelle Reservoir and Uinta Mountains.

The Four Seasons Resort and Residences Deer Valley and the Canopy by Hilton at Deer Valley are under construction with another to-be-named five-star hotel breaking ground in the East Village area this summer.

Trail Closures in Preparation for Ski Season

Elsewhere in the East Village, construction is ramping up in anticipation of the 2025/26 ski season. This summer, Deer Valley plans to install up to nine chairlifts and establish a temporary skier services hub. As a result, most trails in the area will remain closed while work is underway.

SkyRidge Development

SkyRidge is a separate development within MIDA’s project area that is evolving on the east side of Highway 40. This single- family community has 468 homesites, with 70 completed homes and 55 that are under construction.

For the public, the highlight of this area will be the equestrian center and the three-hole mountain golf course. SkyRidge Equestrian is open this summer for equine boarding, grooming, training and lessons. Eventually, they plan to partner with an outfitter to offer trail rides.
